Hardcore Spirituality

I’m fed up with feel-good spirituality. I’m fed up with positive thinking. I’m fed up with the Law of Attraction. I’m also fed up with dogmatic organized religions, superficial New Age ideologies, and modern consumerism clothed in spirituality, rampant with greed, laziness and irresponsibility.

I don’t want to ascend into the 5th dimension, I don’t want to clean my heart chakra with a quartz crystal, and I don’t want to raise my vibrations to a higher level where I can communicate with Ascended Masters. I want no rainbows, no angels, no BS. I just want the truth without the woo. I want to see in the world more real, raw, hardcore spirituality.

Organized religion is like classical music that everybody respects but only a few listen to. New Age spirituality is similar to pop music: uplifting and positive, but also shallow and cheesy. Immortology is the death metal of spirituality: upsetting and hard to listen to, but authentic, raw and real. I am spitting blood from the stage into your face, painful inconvenient truths instead of comforting white lies.

Organized religion and New Age are bedtime stories for scared and naive children to help them sleep better. And exactly that’s why they’re so popular: most people just want to sleep better in samsara. They lie when they say they want the truth. No, what they really want is a better illusion. They’re not ready to wake up yet, all they want is a nicer dream.

But I’m here to awaken you. I won’t tell bedtime stories, I won’t sing lullabies, and I won’t cover you gently with a blanket. I will shout into your ears, give a big slap on your face and throw a bucket of ice cold water on your neck. And I don’t do this because I’m mean, it’s because the house is burning and your time is running out.

Like Churchill, I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat. I’m not saying there’s no light at the end of the tunnel, but be prepared that this tunnel is long, dark and scary. Yes, you can be happy, yes you can be enlightened, and yes you can feel good. But don’t expect to achieve these without some serious soul-searching, without confronting your ugly shadow side, without feeling your own suffering deep in your bones.

Hardcore spirituality is not for the faint hearted but only for the courageous. You need to be brave to let go of everything you believe, to question your own thoughts, to withstand the flood of negative emotions. You need to be brave to stand at the edge of the abyss and look into your own depth and infinity. You need to be brave to rise up even from the brink of insanity.

But without a breakdown, there’s no real breakthrough either. Jump into the abyss and you will see: instead of falling down, you will rise up to the sky. Follow your pain, not your bliss, because the only way to Heaven is through Hell. How do you make yourself suffer? Find this out, and all your suffering will be gone almost immediately.

Don’t numb yourself to the pain, because it is showing you the exact areas you need to change. If you cut your arm and it hurts, the pain calls your attention to deal with the problem, otherwise you may bleed out. Just like that, you shouldn’t suppress your inner pain or distract yourself from it by forcing yourself to feel good. Your emotions are your best guides.

Don’t try to improve yourself, instead reinvent yourself from the ground up. A small change is not enough, a total transformation is needed. What you really want is not a better you but a new you. I want you to become a true butterfly, not just a caterpillar with wings.

Immortology is for responsible adults who can handle the truth. If you seek fantasies, go to Disneyland. If you seek truth, go to the cemetery. And if you seek enlightenment, forget about feel-good spirituality, and go all-in for hardcore spirituality.
