The Great Pyramids, Stonehenge, Machu Picchu: these are just few of the several sacred sites built by civilizations before us. Some of these places are truly incredible and have fascinated the imagination of generations of people. While trying to answer who built them, and how and why they were built, a couple of researchers came up with the idea, that perhaps it was the aliens. But what’s the truth to their claims?
I visited many of these sacred sites myself, because I want to experience all the wonders of the world. I was inside the King’s chamber of the Great Pyramid of Giza when you were still allowed to go in. In Peru, I visited Machu Picchu, Sacsayhuaman and the Nazca lines. I even went to see the Serbian pyramids and the tunnels beneath them.
Although I too was amazed by these sacred sites, I never believed they were not made by humans or by nature itself. Those who subscribe to the theory of alien architects, base their claims on exactly the opposite belief: namely that these buildings simply couldn’t have been made by men.
They say that it would be very hard or even impossible to recreate these buildings even with our modern technology, so there’s no chance ancient civilizations were able to make them with basic tools. Some of the designs, the patterns and the measurements are so precise and elaborate, and the scales are so huge that there must be the hand of either gods or aliens in the matter.
Different authors imagine different scenarios of extraterrestial construction. Some claim they gave us only tools and blueprints, while others suspect that some of the buildings were erected by aliens themselves. When they were done, they mysteriously left in their spaceships, leaving no trace behind them in any written text, artwork or folklore whatsoever.
Various thinkers also theorize about a hidden link among the various cultures separated by time and space. According to them, if both Egyptians and Incas built pyramids, then it must have been aliens who instructed them. Well, the pyramid shape is one of the most stable structures, so the two cultures could easily come to the same conclusion by themselves. They were also used for entirely different purposes: in one for tombs, in the other for human sacrifice.
Let’s look at the question briefly from the aliens’ perspective. Why on earth would they come here and instruct us to build these monuments? Why did they leave so abruptly? How is it that we discovered electricity and radioactivity, and invented radios, computers, rockets and atomic bombs all by ourselves, but needed the help of a more intelligent alien race to put some stones on top of each other?
There are also other problems with the theory of alien astronauts. When we visit another planet, we put our lives at risk. We need special suits and gadgets to adapt to the different conditions and to protect ourselves. Just like that, the aliens would also risk their lives by visiting the Earth. The gravity is probably different than in their home planet, our Sun must be blinding to them, the oxygen poisonous, and the viruses deadly. Would they really put themselves in such danger just to help us erect fancy buildings in the other corner of the galaxy?
If they abduct somebody, why don’t they make him completely unconscious first, or erase their memory, if they don’t want us to see them? And if they do want to be seen, why don’t they show themselves in broad daylight? By the way, for more about aliens, watch my episode titled “The truth about UFOs and alien abductions”.
We can of course come up with elaborate theories to explain away all these incongruences, and that’s exactly what some New Age authors are doing. But instead of fabricating more and more suppositions, why don’t we just turn to the simplest explanation: that sacred sites are in fact man-made.
So then, the question is: how could ancient civilizations build these gigantic monuments relying only on simple tools? Recently, a number of archeologists and architects demonstrated on camera that this is indeed possible. First they carved out huge blocks of rocks from the quarries by hand-held carving stones. Then they used finer materials and measuring devices to make the sides even. To cut the solid granite with precision, they utilized a teethless copper saw and the power of the tiny quartz crystals found in sand.
When the block was ready, they would implement slides and ropes to transport it to its place. Egyptians also used ships to carry the huge granite blocks aboard, and even diverted the Nile close to the pyramids. The Great Pyramid itself was probably built using an inner ramp with the additional help of counterbalance weights, and not some supernatural levitation device like some popular authors like to think.
There’s another interesting video of an Englishman who built a miniature version of Stonehenge in his backyard. He did this all alone, with only the tools that were available at the time. His secret was in balancing the huge block precisely in its center with a stone, and then giving it a tilt to place a wooden board underneath. After that, he tilted the block to the other side, and placed another board. He did this until the huge block of stone was elevated from the ground, and finally erected it vertically.
Now we know more or less how Stonehenge was built, but we’re still not sure about the purpose it served, because their builders didn’t leave any written records. We can only know one thing for sure: that we will never know it for sure. But it doesn’t mean that we should come up with unfounded explanations for things we don’t understand. Instead, we should accept that we can’t know, understand and explain everything: but that’s a bitter pill to swallow for many people.
